Pain in the neck, leg, or back can be so debilitating that an individual cannot perform even common daily tasks. It is often the focus of patients who visit Knecht Chiropractic Center. Fortunately, spinal decompression performed by our chiropractor in Sanford NC is an effective treatment. We offer only natural therapies that avoid medication or surgery.
Two kinds of spinal decompression relieve pain: surgical and nonsurgical. Our chiropractic center uses only the nonsurgical type, which employs motorized traction. It is effective for conditions such as:
Sciatica
Spinal misalignments
Back or neck pain
Herniated discs
Spinal nerve roots that are injured or diseased
Worn spinal joints
This therapy reduces pressure on spinal nerves and other structures to eliminate pain. To move the spine and relieve pressure on discs, our chiropractor utilizes a special table. Using a computer, Dr. Knecht can customize the therapy for each individual. The treatment consists of changing force and position to alternately stretch and relax the patient’s spine.
The negative pressure created by compression can pull the contents of a bulging or herniated disc back into the proper space. Decompression also increases how efficiently nutrients pass into a disc and creates better circumstances in which the body can begin to self-heal.
The first step toward pain relief is a comprehensive consultation with our chiropractor. It includes a physical examination, review of the patient’s health history, explanation of symptoms, and any necessary testing. Once there is a diagnosis of what is causing the individual’s pain, Dr. Knecht will recommend a customized treatment plan that might include decompression therapy.
Spinal decompression is an outpatient treatment performed at our center. During this noninvasive procedure, the patient lies on a table and has a harness around his or her hips. This harness connects to a motorized table that moves in opposing directions according to how Dr. Knecht directs it. These alternating movements transition between traction and relaxation modes. The therapy should not be painful.
Decompression is not advisable for everyone. Chiropractors do not recommend it for patients who are pregnant or who have a tumor, fracture, abdominal aortic aneurysm, advanced osteoporosis, or metallic spine implants. Certain prior surgical procedures, medications, or other conditions also contraindicate the procedure.
